Depression lifted, no more stomach pains, 90 pounds down!
Here’s Rachael’s wonderful story of marked improvement in longstanding depression, along with getting slimmer by 90 pounds! In December/January just past I started eating to Wheat Belly guidelines. I’m no longer depressed, stomach pains from wheat are gone, I’m healthy and happy. I went from 250 pounds to 160. And still dropping. I did this for my health and concern for Frankenwheat, not solely to lose weight. They just happen to go hand in hand. Ever since I was little, I’ve suffered from depression. When I was 18, I was admitted to hospital for about three months. Drug after drug and trial ...

Unregimented
The title is the name of the game for the next few days. I slept in and woke up this morning at 8am and ate a Marie’s turkey and dressing meal heated in the microwave.  I didn't even cook Maggie and I breakfast. Maggie is still in the bed snoozing.  We didn’t even go for our walk this morning.  It is vacation time darling Maggie. My only pressing concern for me is to listen to as much new and neat music I can find for a week. I also want to level up my Dark Elf in Skyrim and tackle some tougher quests. Cocaine, Cigarettes, and Booze I watched the movie Flight last night starring Denzel Washington. ...

Frustration Abounds
Frustration is the name of the game today and last night. Dad thinks I am taking something or have gotten into some drugs, and he is trying to find out what it is.  It is just that I sleep in the day and evening and every time he is over I’ve been abruptly woken out of a dead sleep. You know how groggy you can be when you’ve been very sound asleep.  You can’t win for losing as the old saying goes. I wish he would just mind his own business and stay out of mine. I feel like I am constantly watched and it doesn't help the paranoid aspect of my schizoaffective disorder as well. He is doing more harm than good....

How quickly does wheatlessness unfold?
Wheatlessness: the happy, healthy state achieved by not eating wheat. A frequently asked question: Once you eliminate wheat, how fast do the benefits occur? Well, it depends. It depends on what health issue we are discussing, what organ system, and how far along the process of wheat destruction you were. Nonetheless, there are a number of common patterns that develop once you decide to eliminate all things wheat in your life: Gastrointestinal Acid reflux, bowel urgency–5 days is typical for these conditions to reduce or go away entirely. Ulcerative colitis, Crohns–These complex inflammatory conditions require...

Your Wounded Spirit
Symptoms of a Wounded Spirituality The relationship within our ‘self’ of body, mind and emotions shapes our ability to relate to other people, and to the spiritual power in the universe. Depression, addictions, compulsive behaviour and low self-esteem are but symptoms, signs of a broken relationship within our ‘self’. They are symptoms of a ‘wounded spirit’. When this connection between our body, mind and emotions is broken, our ability, our ‘response-ability’, to respond healthily to life’s circumstances is limited. In recovery our task is to identify and undo the broken parts of ourselves and learn to r...

A Little Bit of Everything and a Bucket of Chicken
It is quiet around here today – your typical Sunday afternoon.  I’ve had the most heinous lazy streaks lately that they are hard to break out of. I don’t get to moving until hours after waking. Maggie was being shy and wouldn’t look at the camera today. She’s been even lazier than I. It is contagious and we are just the most pitiful bunch you’ve seen. Last night, mom left a gigantic container of Helen’s macaroni and cheese on the back porch.  It was after eleven and she was worried she would wake me, but called anyway.  “Thank you for telling me!” I told her excitedly. I drove quickly over...

Prison Hooch
Or where a sock goes into every sangria… I am a terrible, terrible enabling friend. I sent George some prison hooch recipes from the internet after much begging from him for weeks. I figured since he worked in the kitchen then many things would be incredibly easy to get. The censors will probably get it, though, but you can be surprised at what slips by their ever vigilant gaze. I wrote to him that he can spend the next few years perfecting his recipe if that was any solace. They make their own bread so he would have access to yeast – a key ingredient unless you want to use dirty socks which tend to harbor a lot of fu...

“We Should Reopen It.” BC Conservative Party Leader John Cummins on the Closed BC Adult ADHD Clinic
“We Should Reopen It.” BC Conservative Party Leader John Cummins on the Closed BC Adult ADHD ClinicPost from: Adult ADD Strengths 6 Years ago in 2007, the BC Liberal government under then health minister George Abbott shut down the only provincial adult ADHD clinic in BC at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver after a 12-14 month long wait list for an entire year. In May 2011 I asked Christy Clark during her by election campaign at her town hall meeting if she would re open the BC adult ADHD clinic. She said “I don’t have enough information about the specifics of the program that you’re talking about, ...

Earth to Jillian: It’s NOT about gluten!
Jillian Michaels made a major nutritional boo boo with this recent piece of hers: MYTH: If You Want To Slim Down, Go Gluten-Free. “Only about one percent of the American population needs to be gluten-free because of an autoimmune disorder called celiac disease. Most people do not have to worry about gluten and should eat whole grains as part of a balanced diet.” She makes the perennial mistake of the nutritionally ignorant: She equates wheat with gluten. As followers of the Wheat Belly message all understand, wheat does NOT equal gluten. Wheat is the perfect obesogen, a food perfectly crafted to cause weight g...

Can We Stamp Out Thinspiration on Twitter? Torri Singer Thinks We Can
Pro-anorexia (or “pro-ana”) groups have been around online for over a decade, and we first discussed them here five years ago. More recently, with the rise of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, these groups have found a new life. Often associated with the label “thinspiration,” these groups elevate the idea of being thin to a virtual religion. People who are all about thinspiration engage in disordered eating in order to be as thin as possible — a common symptom of anorexia. But they don’t see it as a disorder or a problem, making this an insidious problem. Noneth...

Six ways Big Pharma manipulates consumers - Salon
This article originally appeared on AlterNet. The blockbuster pill profit party is over for Big Pharma. Bestselling pills like Lipitor, Seroquel, Zyprexa, Singular and Concerta have gone off patent and sites which their ads sustained are withering on the vine. WebMD, for example, the voice of Pharma on the Web, with a former Pfizer exec serving as CEO, announced it would cut 250 positions in December. But don’t worry, Wall Street. Pharma isn’t going to deliver disappointing earnings just because it has little or no new drugs coming online and has failed at the very reason for its existence. Here are six new Pharma ma...

Eating Disorders in Adolescence Can Have a Long Term Effect on Women’s Health
Despite the prevalence of eating disorders in adolescent girls, it’s difficult to find information about longer term health consequences in adults, as little follow-up has been done. A new article in the journal Maturitas on the long-term health consequences of the female athlete triad, a syndrome that may include eating disorders, is an important contribution to the research. First defined in the early 1990s, female athlete triad used to be defined as the combination of an eating disorder, amenorrhea (lack of a menstrual period), and osteoporosis. The definition was adjusted in 2007 to focus more on a spectrum o...

Open mouth, close mind
So much of what we talk about here and in other Wheat Belly discussions revolves around the mind effects of wheat. While there are other “foods” with mind effects, such as the euphoria and judgment altering effects of alcohol, or (for some people) the “rush” of sugar, nothing possesses the range of mind effects presented by the components of wheat. Let’s review the most important: The Exorphin Effect Recall that the gliadin protein of wheat is degraded in the gastrointestinal tract to 5 or 6 small (tetra- and penta-) peptides. These were dubbed “exorphins” by the National Institut...

Depression and chronic fatigue . . . gone!
Cheryl posted this brief but powerful observation that highlights the incredible mind effects of wheat, the unexpected freedom from even incapacitating effects with its elimination: I have suffered with major depression and chronic fatigue for the last ten years of my life. This past Christmas I actually wanted to die! I couldn’t live like I was anymore. Practically bedridden. I was at the point of having to have electroshock treatments, as none of the medications were working. I read your book, Wheat Belly, and the diet has changed my life. I have never felt better in my life! Just by eliminating wheat, my depression ...
