Optimization of the immunorecognition layer towards Brucella sp. on gold surface for SPR platform
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2023 Oct 2;231:113577. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2023.113577. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA successful immunosensor is characterized by a proper antibody immobilization and orientation in order to enhance the antigen recognition. In this work, a thorough characterization of the antibody functionalized gold surface is performed to set up the best conditions to implement in an optical platform for the detection of Brucella sp. Two different strategies are evaluated, based on a random immobilization and on an oriented one: a direct antibody immobilization on carboxylic mixed polyethylene (PEG) s...

Seroprevalence of < i > Brucella < /i > spp. and Rift Valley fever virus among slaughterhouse workers in Isiolo County, northern Kenya
This study investigated seroprevalence and co-exposure ofBrucella spp. and RVFV and associated risk factors among slaughterhouse workers in Isiolo County, northern Kenya. A cross-sectional serosurvey was done in all 19 slaughterhouses in Isiolo County, enrolling 378 participants into the study. The overall seroprevalences forBrucella spp. and RVFV were 40.2% (95% CI: 35.2 –45.4) and 18.3% (95% CI: 14.5–22.5), respectively while 10.3% (95% CI 7.4%-13.8%) of individuals were positive for antibodies against bothBrucella spp. and RVFV. Virus neutralisation tests (VNT) confirmed anti-RVFV antibodies in 85% of ELISA-positive...

First Argentine database for the accurate identification of Brucella to species level by MALDI-TOF MS: Primera base de datos Argentina para la identificaci ón precisa de Brucella a nivel de especie por MALDI-TOF MS
Acta Trop. 2023 Oct 2:107036. doi: 10.1016/j.actatropica.2023.107036. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS) has proven to be a fast and reliable method for the identification of a large number of taxonomic groups. It offers the advantage of being able to incorporate protein spectra of microorganisms that are absent or poorly represented in commercial databases, such as the genus Brucella. The aim of the study was to build the first database of protein spectra of local biological variants of Brucella in Argentina and of standard strains. First, the identification performance of a panel of 135 strain...
