20 Private Companies to Watch in 2020
MD+DI has taken a hard look at the private medtech sector and developed this list of 20 private companies we will be paying particularly close attention to in the new year. It was not an easy task. There are so many interesting private companies in the industry right now that we started with a much longer list and whittled it down to the 20 companies that stood out most to us.

J & amp;J Fires up the Surgical Robotics Market with New Verb Deal
Earlier this year, MD+DI asked if Johnson & Johnson was becoming a surgical robotics powerhouse. This seems to be the case now that the New Brunswick, N.J.-based company has said it will acquire the remaining stake in the Verb Surgical joint venture it has with Verily. The companies did not disclose the financial details of deal, which is expected to close in the first half of 2020.

J & amp;J ’s Auris Has Solid Data to Support Monarch
Johnson & Johnson’s Auris Health revealed late-breaking data from the BENEFIT study during the CHEST 2019 Conference in New Orleans last week. BENEFIT is a study of the Monarch Platform, a robotic technology indicated for the use in diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopic procedures.
BENEFIT assessed the safety and feasibility of using a robotic system to aid in the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions 1cm to 5 cm in size. During the study, investigators performed robotic-assisted bronchoscopy using the Monarch Platform on 55 patients across five study sites.

BENEFIT Results Could Contain Spoilers for Monarch ’s Effectiveness
Johnson & Johnson’s Auris Health scored positive preliminary results from a first-in-human study evaluating the Monarch Platform to aid in the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions. Data from the BENEFIT study was presented at the American Thoracic Society 2019 Conference in Dallas.
So far in BENEFIT, Monarch has been used in 24 patients to localize targeted nodules using a combination of direct visualization, navigational guidance and radial endobronchial ultrasound.
