Thoughts on 2 yr pulmonary disease fellowships
For those interested in bronchoscopy procedures, but not critical care, is this a good option? 1. Is it difficult to get a job w/ just a pulm disease fellowship? I heard a lot of groups only want pulm/crit people. 2. How does bronchoscopy training compare between pulm vs. pulm/crit fellowship? 2. How are the procedure volumes compared to cards and GI? Is there enough EBUS and ENB to go around? Since reimbursement is skewed towards procedures, it'd be nice if my income doesn't go down w/... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Virtual TEE simulator alternative
Ever since the internet decided to hit the kill switch on flash. The virtual TEE and virtual bronchoscopy sim from u.Toronto are down. Does anyone know of any decent alternatives. I have their basic views apps which lets you click through the views but I really miss manipulating the probe and understanding how it responds. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Critical care procedures
I'm in love with critical care. I want to do ICU for life. I did two pulmonary rotations so far during residency and it's really not for me except for procedures. I can't stand the clinic. I don't want to spend most of my time on floors teaching hospitalists and cardiologists alike how to diurese their patients. If I do pure critical care fellowship (2 years), Can I do my own diagnostic bronchoscopies in ICU (BAL and mucus suction)? (I understand biopsies and other interventions need a... Ketamine during a Bronchoscopy
So I'm a CA-1 and aware that I'm still a rookie in anesthesia. I've been taught in lecture/read in books that when you use ketamine you should anticipate an increase in salivation usually helped with the administration of Robinul. I was in a bronchoscopy last week when I saw an attending use a mixture of propofol and ketamine on microdrip tubing along with an LMA as the airway. He didn't use any Robinul even when the RN at bedside continually suctioned the mouth. I know that with all the... Ketamine during a Bronchoscopy (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bronchoscopy Rotation
Does anyone know of a hospital where I could do a diagnostic bronch rotation and get a decent number of critical care bronchs? I am in a two year CC program but unfortunately we do not get that many opportunities due to pulm fellows. I was considering doing an IP rotation, but I won't ever be doing EBUS or navigational bronchs. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bronch training
Anyone here had any post-graduate training on interventional bronchoscopy procedures? Looking to learn to do bronchoscopic interventions for persistent pneumothorax/bronchopleural fistulas. I'm already pretty handy with the flexible bronch, and would prefer not to go through the full interventional pulm fellowship... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anesthesia residency
How airway competent is one, after completing a 3 year U.S. Anesthesia residency? Very? Smug with difficult airways? What about percutaenous tracheostomies? Is there enough hands-on? Bronchoscopies at all? Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bronchoscopy Question
My 17 month old son has a CRMS dx (df508 + a "varying consequence" mutation and negative sweat). We switched clinics about 4 months ago. Our new clinic felt that my son's health history and culture history warranted a bronchoscopy. Last Wednesday he had the bronch as well as an endoscopy and an Infant PFT. Normally they have you return 2 weeks post procedure but because of the holiday it looks like we may not be getting in until sometime next month. I've asked the nurse to talk to our pulm about getting us results over the phone at least - we'll see if it happens - but in the meantime I have a couple questions...

Diagnosed at 36
Hi everybody, I joined the forum when i was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis this summer, but for some reason I couldn't post under my old screen name. I was diagnosed in July after my pulmonologist did a full panel of bloodwork. I had previously passed 2 sweat tests. I have moderate bronchiectasis and am culturing m. absessus. I spent 4 weeks on iv antibiotics this summer and got pancreatitus as a side effect. This was my drs big hint. As i said in the title i am 36yo. I had no idea anything was wrong with my lungs till i got pregnant with my now 4yo son(carrier-d1125h). At 5 weeks pregnant i had my first and only re...

Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Erradicated
I was wondering if anyone on this board has ever known or heard of anyone diagnosed with CF getting Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and then completely eradicating it through antibiotic treatment (verified by a specimen via bronchoscopy)? Thank you. (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Adults Forum)

Daughter has PCD- Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia
I recently posted a thread about my 7 year old daughter. She has symptoms of CF but very low sweat test results. One of you nice people posted about PCD- and that is exactly what the Pulmo Dr thinks she has. Everything that is written about PCD relates it to CF and says the treatment is identical and problems are similar- just caused by different disease. No wonder it was so confusing! She's have CT of lungs next week, along with bronchoscopy. We're starting the acapella device today. Saline breathing treatments. Continued treatment for asthma- although at the moment the immunologist and pulmonologist think she m...

Recently diagnosed at 31
Hi! My name is Krystin, I'm 31 with two kids and here's my story. December 2012, I was at the beach enjoying myself in a hot tub. Two days later, I started coughing. Productive coughing. I assumed it was bronchitis and went along with my life for 6 weeks assuming it would go away on its own and not wanting unnecessary antibiotics. I broke a rib coughing, so it forced me to the doctor. Diagnosed with bacterial bronchitis and sent home with antibiotics. Nothing. Called the doctor telling them the cough was still present. Stronger antibiotics. Nothing. New doctor, new visit and given 2 antibiotic injections in my booty, stero...

My grandson is in the Hospital.. I am having one of those days :(
Hi.. you all may have seen my post about kids with CF reaching out to kids with CF. My grandson is 6 yrs old has CF. He is such a amazing kid and so smart. I think he knows more about his meds and schedule than I do! He has sinus issues has always has had a runny nose :) he takes zrytec and cincular plus all his other meds :0 He had a sinus infection and even with predisone and antibiotic he got worse. He was admitted to hospital Sunday for exacerbation of CF .. to me this means he cannot stop coughing! This is hard and because of a terrible reaction to antibiotics last Oct. the docs are being very cautious with what med...
