Not as bad as you might think – Ali ’ s story
So, I am four weeks and four days post hysterectomy. I asked them to leave my ovaries as at 49 I didn’t want to go into the menopause any earlier than necessary . I also asked them to leave my cervix on the basis that ,to my mind ,the only reason to remove it was to prevent future cervical cancer. But on that basis I should also have my breasts removed to prevent breast cancer …so no ,I kept my cervix. My hysterectomy was about 11 years in the offing. I had a huge fibroid …the equivalent size of an 18 weeks pregnancy which I had had since my first child was born and soon after my second was advised to hav...

Internet Addiction Isn’t An ‘Official’ Diagnosis, But This Center Is Devoted To Treating It
FALL CITY, Wash. -- When Roey Gabay finally got home from the college library, he found his twin sister, Reut, waiting for him in the living room. It was around 1 a.m. on June 9, the night before finals. But she knew he hadn't gone to the library to study. And he knew she knew it. "Come here," she said, as Gabay tried to make a beeline for his bedroom in their house by the California State University, East Bay, campus. "We need to talk." Months later, Gabay, 20, could still remember the tears in his sister's eyes that night, and how he sensed what was about to happen. After years of watching him blow off friends, sports, s...

Stripped of all niceties and social conventions, and assigned with a task that simply cannot be allowed to fail, you briefly get to witness them for who they really are. Aggression, contrition, frustration and cowardice; these are all attributes that come to the fore when someone is consumed by the urge to urinate as quickly as possible. At What Level Does Elevated Glucose Cause Glucosuria?
Discussion Constipation generally is defined as infrequent or painful defecation. Most children develop constipation after the child begins to associate pain (e.g. a hard bowel movement) with defecation. As stool withholding continues, the rectum dilates and gradually accommodates with the normal defecation urge disappearing. Passing large hard stools infrequently reinforces the defecation pain. The cycle continues. If the cycling is severe enough, worsening stool retention and more abnormal defecation dynamics occurs. Chronic rectal...

Melting snow and groundwater levels in Sierra Nevadas
Changing climate conditions have caused dramatic changes in groundwater levels. A new study aimed at understanding the changes in soil wetting and drying that occur as snow melts in mountainous, snow-packed regions. The study examined subsurface water content levels in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. In these regions, soils do not freeze during the winter and remain wet beneath the snowpack.
