Use of essential oils from plants of Araripe National Forest against Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)
Braz J Biol. 2023 Dec 4;83:e275062. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.275062. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAedes aegypti control is achieved with chemical insecticides that can promote insecticide resistance. In the search for new forms of control, the use of botanical products is currently growing and many tests with oils have already been performed. The plant diversity of Araripe National Forest enables the study of several species against this vector. To evaluate the larvicidal effect of essential oils from plants of this forest, we used field rosemary, copaiba, bay leaf, cashew and pequi. The work was divided into three stages: all o...

Determination of the elemental composition of Mentha arvenis, Trigonella foenum-graecum L., and Cinnamomum tamala using instrumental neutron activation analysis technique
AbstractMentha arvenis (Mint),Trigonella foenum-graecum L. (Indian bay leaf), andCinnamomum tamala (fenugreek) were studied for trace elements using instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). Highest concentrations of Mn, Na and were quantified in Mint, Ca and Cl in bay leaves while fenugreek was found to be rich in Al, Co, Cr, Fe, Mg, Rb, Sc and Sr. K/Na ratios of greater than 1 predict the suitability of use of these herbs by hypertensive subjects. When compared with the recommended dietary allowance for an adult it was seen that most of the measured elements are essential in our daily diet and therefore these herb...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7484: Zaluzanin C Alleviates Inflammation and Lipid Accumulation in Kupffer Cells and Hepatocytes by Regulating Mitochondrial ROS
g Lee Yoon Seok Roh Zaluzanin C (ZC), a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from Laurus nobilis L., has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. However, the mechanistic role of ZC in its protective effects in Kupffer cells and hepatocytes has not been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the efficacy and mechanism of action of ZC in Kupffer cells and hepatocytes. ZC inhibited LPS-induced mitochondrial ROS (mtROS) production and subsequent mtROS-mediated NF-κB activity in Kupffer cells (KCs). ZC reduced mRNA levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (Il1b and Tnfa) and ch...

A novel biosynthesis of MgO/PEG nanocomposite for organic pollutant removal from aqueous solutions under sunlight irradiation
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Mar 17. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-26422-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe novel synthesis of MgO from Laurus nobilis L. leaves was prepared using the green synthesis method. It is using direct blending process to decorate MgO/PEG nanocomposite to enhance the photodegradation properties and examine its physical properties using diverse characterization techniques, including XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDX, and UV-Vis. X-ray diffraction reveals a cubic phase of MgO with a 37-nm grain size. SEM images confirm spherical nanoparticles with a diameter size of 22.9 nm. The optical energy gap of MgO NPs was 4...

Evaluation of daily Laurus nobilis tea consumption on anxiety and stress biomarkers in healthy volunteers
Arch Ital Biol. 2022 Dec 1;160(3-4):136-146. doi: 10.12871/000398292022343.ABSTRACTLaurus nobilis is known in the field of herbal medicine and in vitro studies for its antibacterial, antifungal, anti- diabetes, and anti-inflammatory beneficial effects. Laurus nobilis tea consumption was investigated with regard to its effects on anxiety and stress in healthy individuals, measured by subjective tools and by plasmatic cortisol levels. The study included thirty healthy Tunisian volunteers aged between 20 and 57 years consuming Laurus nobilis infusion, prepared from 5g of dried Laurus nobilis leaves in 100 ml boiled water, onc...
