Impact of Nonselective and Selective α-1 Adrenergic Blockers on the Sedative Efficacy of Dexmedetomidine in Urologic Surgery: A Prospective, Observational Study
CONCLUSIONS Nonselective alpha-1 adrenergic blockers can reduce the sedative effects of DMT. Consequently, there may be a need for individualized anesthesia management considering the specific subtype of alpha-1 adrenergic blocker medication.PMID:37747845 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941614 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Prophylactic alpha-blockade for prevention of post-operative urinary retention after inguinal hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionOverall, this meta-analysis has shown that administration of prophylactic alpha-blockers did not prevent POUR. However, there was statistically significant reduction of POUR in patients undergoing laparoscopic IHR as compared to open, as well as in older patients (age more than 60  years) after administration of pre-operative alpha-blocker. Hence, the use of pre-operative alpha-blocker especially in older patients should be considered and more RCTs should be undertaken. (Source: Hernia)

Structure-based virtual screening of chemical libraries as potential MELK inhibitors and their therapeutic evaluation against breast cancer
Chem Biol Interact. 2023 Mar 7:110443. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2023.110443. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNew targeted therapy for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an urgent need, as advanced disease responds poorly to conventional chemotherapy. Genomic and proteomic studies are currently investigating new genes and proteins as promising therapeutic targets. One of such therapeutic targets is a cell cycle regulatory kinase; Maternal Embryonic Leucine Zipper Kinase (MELK), overexpressed in TNBC and correlated with cancer development. We performed molecular docking for virtual screening of chemical libraries (phytochemical...

Green micellar liquid chromatographic analysis of alfuzosin hydrochloride and sildenafil citrate in a binary mixture compared to classical RPLC with stability indicating studies
Drug Dev Ind Pharm. 2022 Jun 27:1-16. doi: 10.1080/03639045.2022.2093896. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo simple and validated chromatographic studies were performed for simultaneous estimation of sildenafil citrate and alfuzosin hydrochloride in bulk, pharmaceuticals, and in the presence of their main degradation products. Two systems of mobile phase were applied isocratically for their first chromatographic separation using conventional and micellar mobile phases. Methanol, acetonitrile, and 0.02 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate (43:14:43 v/v; pH 4.66) were pumped at 1.3 mL/min in method I. Meanwhile, method II was bas...
