Altered Low Frequency Heart Rate Variability Associated with Agoraphobia in Panic Disorder: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: Our results do not support that executive function deficits and ANS alterations are more pronounced with comorbid agoraphobia among PD groups. However, PD with agoraphobia patients showed more complex and severe clinical symptoms in their self-reports. Compared with the subclinical group, PD patients with agoraphobia showed specific features in the natural logarithm of low-frequency HRV. Our findings suggest that agoraphobia comorbidity should be considered when evaluating or treating patients with PD.PMID:37880848 | PMC:PMC10613766 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2022.0592 (Source: Yonsei Medical Journal)

Persistence of extensively trained avoidance is not elevated in anxiety disorders in an outcome devaluation paradigm
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, anxiety disorders were characterized by reduced approach but not stronger habitual avoidance. These results do not indicate a direct association between anxiety disorders and the acquisition of pervasive habitual avoidance in this devaluation paradigm.PMID:37879245 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104417 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)

Mental Illness, Substance Use Disorder Linked to Stroke
Having a history of mental illness or substance use disorder (SUD) may be linked to an increased risk of stroke, astudy in theJournal of Psychiatric Research has found.Yann Le Strat, M.D., of Louis Mourier Hospital, in Colombes, France, and colleagues examined data from 36,309 participants aged 18 years and older in theNational Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions-III.As part of the survey, participantswere asked whether during the last 12 months, they had experienced a stroke, and then whether this diagnosis was confirmed by a doctor or other health professionals. Pharmacological approaches to the management of panic disorder in older patients: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: The pharmacological management of PD in older patients has received no attention. Findings are scant, dated, and affected by methodological flaws; thus, they do not provide significant advances.PMID:37676054 | DOI:10.1080/14737175.2023.2254938 (Source: Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics)
