Recently published guidance on the prevention and emergency management of adult patients with adrenal insufficiency outlined the general management issues relating to adrenal crisis. This was subsequently supported by an NHS England and NHS Improvement national patient safety alert (NatPSA) promoting the use of a new Steroid Emergency Card. ANational Patient Safety Alert has been issued asking providers to ensure all eligible patients with adrenal insufficiency are issued with anNHS Steroid Emergency Card, to support early recognition and treatment of adrenal crisis in adults. Together with the Royal College of Physicians patient safety committee and the NHSE/I patient safety team we have developed a newNHS Steroid Emergency Card for adrenal insufficiency patients.
