HPSP Scholarship ADHD Waiver
Hello, Has anyone on here ever received the HPSP while having a prior ADHD diagnosis? What hoops did you have to jump through? I was diagnosed last spring and took medication. I stopped a few months ago when I learned that it was a disqualifier for the military. The recruiter said that I have to remain off medication for 2 years to apply for a waiver. I read online in several places that it was 15 months, not 24. I'm very confused at the process and the recruiter does not seem to help much... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Where to learn more about adult ADHD?
I feel I had a very good residency training experience but I've been inundated with adult ADHD referrals since coming out of training. I've also recently finished reading ADHD Nation by Alan Schwarz and guess I'm having a bit of an existential question about the nature of ADHD. I'm not looking for resources on how to treat ADHD, I'm very comfortable with my pharmacology knowledge in that regards. More wondering about resources talking about how to better diagnose ADHD, impairments to look... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria"
Have an appointment coming up with a patient who just sent me a message about how they watched a video from a psychiatrist about "rejection sensitive dysphoria" and ADHD and that they want to discuss it at our next appointment. I'm very familiar with the concept of rejection sensitivity, but I had never heard of it being used as an actual diagnosis or common co-morbidity of ADHD. Tried to find literature on it but there was almost nothing in PubMed about rejection sensitivity and ADHD and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How bad is it that I didn ’t do anything during the summers of college and don’t have a lot of entries to put for the AMCAS?
It’s too late to change anything bc I already graduated but I wanted to hear opinions! I didn’t do anything the summers of my college years. Most of my clinical, volunteer and shadowing comes from my two gap years that I’m taking now. People might ask why and it was because I was helping my brother. He has ADHD and can’t really focus well unless it’s 1on1 interactions, so during the summers I tutored him on his weaker subjects and especially the last summer I was helping him prepare for... Repeating third year + matching psych
Hi All, I am an MS3 likely needing to repeat my clinical year due to mental health issues affecting my academic performance and causing me to have Incompletes/failures in 3 courses. I had anxiety that came to light on my psych rotation and undiagnosed ADHD that only became apparent later but I got treated a bit too late. I also struggled with side effects of psych meds I took. I'm doing fine now but made my third year very difficult and did not do as well as I had hoped. My step 1 is 233... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Master's in Data Science before Clinical Psych PhD?
Hi everyone, I'm a few years out from undergrad and currently working as a research coordinator in a psychiatry department, looking to ultimately complete a PhD in clinical psychology (ideally with a focus on neuropsych/pharmacology). My undergrad GPA is about a 3.0 (pre-med classes "for fun" and undiagnosed ADHD, mistakes were made). From lurking in this forum and talking to mentors in the field, it seems like I will need to do a master's degree before applying to PhD programs in order to... Can a person with these negative and neutral traits be a therapist?
I have ASD, ADHD, possible OCD, anxiety, borderline traits which seem to be going away with time, and which one therapist didn't believe exist but believe was likely just effects of trauma combined with asd but which my psychiatrist believed to be there, and I'm high in sensory processing sensitivity which gives me an edge because it makes me more empathetic. (I'm an hsp, or "highly sensitive person") . could I be a psychologist? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts on disclosing ADHD diagnosis in ERAS personal statement?
I talked about about my ADHD in my personal statement. It's not the main focus, but I used it as an introductory point that sets the path to discuss cultural stigmas against mental health care, my desire to work with families, and the work ethic/skills I've developed as a result of my ADHD. Am I playing a dangerous game? There is a part of me that worries that this may raise a red flag to potential programs. Des anyone here have any thoughts? Thanks everyone! Expected income in PP
Hi, I am looking to start out in private practice and am setting my ideal schedule and fee structure. I am trained in both psychological assessment for ADHD, learning disabilities, and diagnostic evaluations in addition to multiple therapy modalities and would like to provide both of these services. Starting out, I see myself offering 1 assessment per week, around 10 therapy clients per week, and 1 assessment intake and 1 assessment feedback per week. This gives time for writing as well. It... Tips for explaining to parents that their child does not have autism
I have been having a examples of parents almost seeming disappointed when I tell them their child does not have autism. I usually explain that their kid does have some odd/weird behaviors and is a little quirky, but usually their social skills are excellent and they maybe get like a 3 on the ADOS-2. Usually the kids (often minor) behavioral challenges are behavioral or better explained by ADHD, lowish/borderline IQ, anxiety, etc. It's annoying because it should be GOOD news. newly diagnosed as ADHD in civ deferred residency
Hi all, I am a civilian deferred resident s/p 4 years of HPSP. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for the last few months for anxiety and low mood. She thinks that I have been struggling with undiagnosed ADHD (inattentive type) for a long time, and just have made it this far with good non-medical supports. I have struggled since early elementary school with day dreaming, low test scores, late assignments, constantly missing items, etc to the point of almost failing classes and getting a... Penn State vs. University of Utah
I am between University of Utah and Penn State. Which would you choose??! Facts: in-state Utah applicant. LGBTQ female. ADHD and very extroverted. (hence, my preoccupation w/ the curriculum style). Tuition money is not a concern since they are priced about the same. 1. University of Utah: Pros: Top 40 school I have great connections here with some of the doctors who wrote my letters and who I did research and worked with close to wife's family who live in...
