Acetaminophen and N-acetylcysteine are removed by hemodialysis
3.5 out of 5 stars Massive acetaminophen overdose: effect of hemodialysis on acetaminophen and acetylcysteine kinetics. Ghannoum M et al. Clin Toxicol 2016 Jul;54:519-22. Abstract As we’ve discussed before, massive acetaminophen [APAP] overdose may be a somewhat different beast from the usual, run-of-the-mill case that reliably responds to N-acetylcysteine [NAC] (if administered at an early stage.)There is evidence that a very large intake of APAP (some say >500 mg/kg) can poison mitochondria, causing severe effects that manifest even before onset of hepatotoxicity. “Massive overdose” is suggested b...

Nutrients To Energize Your Mitochondria
For more than a decade now, I’ve been boosting my patients’ mitochondria with two super-nutrients — CoQ10 and pyrroloquinoline quinone, or PQQ. You see, if you keep your mitochondria healthy, your body will have all the energy it’ll ever need to stay strong and ward off the diseases of aging. The problem is that mainstream medicine is lagging way behind, so you won’t hear about this from your doctor. But along with your telomeres, the cellular time keepers at the ends of your chromosomes, your mitochondria are key components in the anti-aging equation. Keeping them safe and charged is essential to healthy aging....

Mitochondrial Function: The Other Half Of The Anti-Aging Story
Telomere science changed everything we knew about aging. But today, I want to talk to you about the other half of the anti-aging equation. Regular readers will already know by protecting your telomeres, you can slow — and even reverse — the aging process. You see, your telomeres are like little countdown clocks that protect the DNA in your cells. They shorten with each cell division. And the shorter they get the faster you develop the signs of aging. So by protecting and nourishing them, you can literally turn back the years. I was one of the first doctors to put telomere science to the test. And for years, I’ve bee...

Pfizer closes $15B Hospira takeover
Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) yesterday closed its $15 billion acquisition of Hospira, its largest-ever buyout, expanding its portfolio of generic injectable drugs and copies of biotech medicines. Hospira makes generic versions of injectable drugs used in hospitals, pumps to deliver such medicine and also sells biosimilars or copies of biotech drugs. Pfizer paid $90 per share in cash, a 39% premium to Hospira’s closing stock price the day before the February bid.
