Researchers have determined the hospital costs and risk of death for emergency surgery and compared it to the same operation when performed in a planned, elective manner for three common surgical procedures: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, coronary artery bypass graft and colon resection. Excellent Long-Term Outcomes for Endovascular Aneurysm Repair with Medtronic's Endurant AAA Stent Graft
New long-term data from two different studies of Medtronic's Endurant AAA stent graft system reinforce earlier outcomes and demonstrate lasting and consistent results for the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (EVAR). In the U.S. IDE study, 99.2% of patients were free from aneurysm-related mortality and 90% were free from secondary interventions at four years. Almost 500 men have potentially lifesaving surgery through screening
In England, around 1 in every 70 men aged 65 years has an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). An AAA is a dangerous swelling (aneurysm) of the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the abdomen to the rest of the body. This is the first time figures from the screening programme have been published since the completion of its national rollout across England in April 2013.
