Minimal invasive mitral valve surgery does make a different: Should it be the gold standard for mitral valve repair?

Mitral valve regurgitation is associated with significant long term morbidities including the development of atrial fibrillation, heart failure and shortened life expectancy. Mitral valve repair improves long-term outcome in patients with mitral regurgitation [1]. Open chest procedures remain the gold standard for mitral repair and remain the context from which to compare durability and outcomes.
