Magnetic resonance imaging of optic nerve and optic sheath hemorrhages in child abuse - Zuccoli G.

In abusive head trauma victims, optic nerves and optic sheath hemorrhages are commonly associated with retinal hemorrhages. Until now, optic nerve and optic nerve sheath hemorrhages related to abusive head trauma have been identified by exenteration and so...

We present a rare, intradural manifestation of CPPD requiring surgical intervention, with a review of pertinent differential diagnoses on imaging. A 48-year-old male presented with urinary retention, and was found to have an intradural lesion with peripheral enhancement on gadolinium T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Due to the patient ’s progressive neurological deterioration, he was taken for a minimally invasive approach for resection of the lesion. Histopathological analysis revealed crystal deposits with rhomboidal birefringence consistent with CPPD. The imaging features of this lesion were atypical for an...

ConclusionWe showed distinct patterns of diffuse brain SWI susceptibilities in critically-ill patients who underwent mechanical ventilation/ECMO. The etiology of these foci remains uncertain, but the association with mechanical ventilation, prolonged respiratory failure, and hypoxemia seems probable explanations.

ConclusionThis pilot study gives insights into significant intrinsic functional connectivity changes in the memory regions of the dAVF brain. The results may have clinical implications in the choice of interventional management of dAVF and can impact clinical decision making for realizable prevention of progressive memory impairment and irreversible brain damage in such patients.

Exp Neurol. 2021 Sep 22:113868. doi: 10.1016/j.expneurol.2021.113868. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlacental dysfunction is a major cause of fetal demise, fetal growth restriction, and preterm birth, as well as significant maternal morbidity and mortality. Infant survivors of placental dysfunction are at elevated increased risk for lifelong neuropsychiatric morbidity. However, despite the significant consequences of placental disease, there are no clinical tools to directly and non-invasively assess and measure placental function in pregnancy. In this work, we will review advanced MRI techniques applied to the study of th...

Appetite. 2021 Sep 22:105707. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2021.105707. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Emotional eating has emerged as a contributing factor to overeating, potentially leading to obesity or disordered eating behaviors. However, the underlying biological mechanisms related to emotional eating remain unclear. The present study examined emotional, hormonal, and neural alterations elicited by an acute laboratory stressor in individuals with and without emotional eating.METHODS: Emotional (n = 13) and non-emotional eaters (n = 15) completed two main study visits, one week apart: one visit included a Stress ve...

Mohammad Ayasrah International Journal of Human Rights in Healthcare, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- Many international radiology societies, including American College of Radiologists (ACR), have established guidelines for optimum forms and contents of medical imaging reports to ensure high quality and to guarantee the satisfaction of both the referring physician and the patient. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the criteria of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reports in Jordan according to the standards of the ACR. This cross-sectional study was conducted in early January 2021 for...
