Incidence and disease course of new-onset diabetes mellitus in breast and colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy: A prospective multicenter cohort study
Diabetes mellitus (DM) and cancer share common risk factors such as obesity and insulin resistance [1, 2]. In a meta-analysis of 20 controlled trials and prospective cohort studies, the risks of breast cancer and colorectal cancer were approximately 20% higher in patients with DM than in normoglycemic patients [3]. Although it is known that hyperglycemia stimulates cancer growth, the exact mechanism has not been well elucidated yet [1].
