Heart Failure: One, None, and a Hundred Thousand

Heart failure represents an important public health problem worldwide, with a broad spectrum of clinical scenarios, starting from primary prevention in an asymptomatic phase to acute and chronic congestive heart failure, with use of modern drugs and devices, rehabilitation, and telemedicine strategies.1 –3 So, we can appropriately paraphrase the renowned Italian writer and Nobel Prize recipient, Luigi Pirandello, and his famous novel, written in 1926, as: “Heart Failure: One, None and a Hundred Thousand.” Diagnosis and treatment of heart failure are particularly difficult and challenging, esp ecially in these dramatic days, as most medical effort everywhere is devoted to COVID-19 care.
