Comparison of Patients With Nonobstructive Coronary Artery Disease With Versus Without Myocardial Infarction (From the VA Clinical Assessment Reporting and Tracking [CART] Program)

Nonobstructive coronary artery disease is identified in 5-15% of patients presenting with myocardial infarction and is associated with mortality rates up to 5% at one year 1-5. Proposed causes of myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary artery disease (MINOCA) are diverse and include both epicardial and microvascular etiologies 5-9. Prior studies suggest that traditional cardiovascular risk factors are less prevalent in patients with MINOCA as compared to those with MI due to obstructive coronary artery disease (MI-CAD) 5,7,10,11.
