Mol. Nutr. Food Res. 2020,65,1901071DOI:10.1002/mnfr.201901071Dietary stressors, including saturated fats and sugars, generate endogenous stress signals that reconfigure host metabolism towards a glycolytic pro ‐inflammatory state. Conversely, exercise, unsaturated fats, and dietary antioxidants direct metabolism towards oxidative phosphorylation and lower reactive oxygen species. This metabolic environment promotes resolution of inflammation. Cellular receptors like TLR4 and the NLRP3 inflammasome sense metabolic stressors and re‐program macrophages. This is reported by Elena De Marco Castro, Philip C. Calder, and Helen M. Roche in article1901071.
