Depression is a debilitating illness in adolescents, with lifetime prevalence between 11% and 14%. Studies have shown that antidepressants have limited efficacy in treating major depression in adolescents. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is an easy, noninvasive stimulation of the brain cortex and has been increasingly considered for research in adolescents with treatment-resistant depression.
