Time of stroke onset in Coronavirus disease 2019 patients around the globe: a systematic review and analysis.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rapidly became a pandemic. As of August 29th, 2020, over 24 million cases have been confirmed worldwide1. Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is associated with diverse neurological manifestations involving both the central and peripheral nervous system2,3. In fact, reports of ischemic stroke in patients with COVID-19 have increasingly been published, suggesting an association between these conditions. It has been proposed that SARS-CoV-2 infection induces a severe inflammatory response and hypercoagulable state, making patients susceptible to thrombotic complications, especially in those who are critically ill4.
