Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease that remains the leading cause of death in both men and women, but distinct sex differences in the incidence and severity of hypertension are well established [1]. As the prevalence of obesity is increasing over the last decades, it has directly impacted on the development of hypertension in young adults [2]. However, available data on the risk factors for hypertension in women of reproductive age are relatively scarce, and the results have been inconsistent [3].
