Clinical course and outcomes in patients with asthma hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia:a single-center, retrospective study.
The data on the clinical characteristics and outcomes of asthmatics with SARS-CoV-2 infection are scarce, but are of paramount importance to evaluate the relationship between COVID-19 and asthma. Given the characteristics of the virus, one would expect to observe an increased prevalence of asthma and wheezing exacerbations in COVID-19 patients with allergy and asthma comorbidity, a typical consequence in case of a viral respiratory infection (1). In this single-centre, observational study, we investigated asthmatic patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia who were admitted to our hospital (Fondazione Poliambulanza Istituto Ospedaliero, Brescia,Italy), which is one of designated hospital to treat patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.
