Depression and anxiety rise among new moms amidst the COVID-19 pandemic

(Frontiers) Pregnant and postpartum women are more likely to experience depression and anxiety since the coronavirus pandemic began, according to a recent study at the University of Alberta. These mental health struggles have been linked to increased risk of premature delivery, reduced mother-infant bonding, and developmental delays in infants. However, the same study also found that women who engaged in physical activity reported better mental health, indicating a possible way to ease depression and anxiety symptoms, and boost maternal and infant health.
