Heart attack in a dish: a 3D model

(Medical University of South Carolina) Researchers in the Medical University of South Carolina Clemson Bioengineering program report in Nature Biomedical Engineering that they have developed human cardiac organoids that model what happens in a heart attack in a microtissue less than 1 millimeter in diameter. This is the first model that accurately recapitulates the complex tissue dysfunction after a heart attack with multiple human cell types in one organoid.
