Cancer and COVID-19: unmasking their ties

Since the inception of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Hubei province, China, in late 2019, it has rapidly spread across the globe[1]. On the 11th of March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the magnitude of which has only continued to soar since[2]. While the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are mild in the majority of those infected, it appears as though nearly 20% of confirmed patients develop significant symptoms.
