Hydroxyethoxy phenyl butanone, a new cosmetic preservative, does not cause bacterial cross-resistance to antimicrobials.
Conclusion. Data produced on the propensity of a molecule to induce bacterial resistance is useful and appropriate when launching a new preservative. PMID: 32186482 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSION: The study revealed an alarming rate of resistance to the commonly used antimicrobial agents used in treating HAIs. Also the relationship between AMR and some risk factors and thus taking steps towards controlling them have been shown.PMID:34540152 | PMC:PMC8408023 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v13i2.5978
Biomacromolecules. 2021 Sep 17. doi: 10.1021/acs.biomac.1c00870. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntimicrobial resistance in microorganisms will cause millions of deaths and pose a vast burden on health systems; therefore, alternatives to existing small-molecule antibiotics have to be developed. Lysozyme is an antimicrobial enzyme and has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity in different aggregated forms. Here, we propose a reductive pathway to obtain colloidally stable amyloid-like worm-shaped lysozyme nanoparticles (worms) from hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) and compare them to amyloid fibrils made in an acid hydrolysis pa...
CONCLUSION: Altogether, the peptide discovered from rhizosphere metagenome hold potential in inhibiting the growth of both the gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and was equally effective in inhibiting the multidrug resistant pathogenic strains (MRSA).PMID:34477502 | DOI:10.2174/0929866528666210903162137
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: CAMP has sufficient antimicrobial activity against major bacterial strains that cause pyoderma and otitis externa in dogs, and may be an alternative therapeutic option for S. pseudintermedius skin infections, for which antibiotics often are ineffective because of antimicrobial resistance in clinical veterinary medicine.PMID:34374169 | DOI:10.1111/vde.13012
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest health and subsequent economic threat humanity faces. Next to massive global awareness campaigns, governments and NGOs alike stress the need for new innovative strategies to treat microbial infections. One of such innovative strategies is the photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) in which the synergistic effects of photons and drugs are exploited. While many promising reports are available, PACT – and especially the drug-design part behind – is still in its infancy. Common best-practice rules, such as the EUCAST or CLSI protocols for classic antibiotics as...
CONCLUSIONS: The case-study of Argentina shows that antimicrobial consumption and resistance of the most common pathogens differed among regions, reflecting different realities within the same country. Because this situation might also be occurring in other countries, this data should be taken into account to target local efforts towards better antimicrobial use, to improve antimicrobial stewardship programs and to propose more suitable sales strategies in order to prevent and control antimicrobial resistance.PMID:34322161 | PMC:PMC8312146 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2021.76
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2020 Dec 31;66(8):20-25.ABSTRACTTo analyze the occurrence of resistant bacterial infection in patients undergoing cardiac surgery hospitalized in the surgical specialty hospital, in Erbil city, Iraq. A prospective study was done on a total of 138 patients operated and hospitalized in an intensive care unit and surgical wards. Bacterial isolates identification was done according to cultural characteristics, microscopic examination, some biochemical tests, analytic Profile Index 20E& API Staph, confirmed with VITEK® 2 compact system (BioMérieux). Antimicrobial susceptibility for...
