Conclusion: There is a slightly increasing trend in the occurrence of esophageal perforations. Contemporary treatment is less invasive with similar results. Patients treated in high-volume hospitals have better prognosis. PMID: 32233883 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: Abstinence from alcohol following AC/AH diagnosis was achieved in 39% of patients. Abstinence was not related to increased survival for alcoholic liver disease patients at one-year, which might partly indicate that this might be a marker that some patients were 'too sick to drink'. AC and AH patients who survived one year and remained abstinent had a favorable long-term prognosis. PMID: 32233877 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Møller S, Kimer N, Barløse M, Bendtsen F Abstract Detailed knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms and changes in hepatic and splanchnic function leading to the development of haemodynamic changes and portal hypertension in patients with cirrhosis are essential since it guides the search for targets to ameliorate liver-related abnormalities. Recent research has focused on the gut-liver axis, changes in intestinal permeability, translocation of bacterial products, and inflammation as important drivers of haemodynamic alterations and thereby targets for treatment. Addit...

Authors: Freitas M, Arieira C, Carvalho PB, Rosa B, Moreira MJ, Cotter J Abstract Background: Capsule endoscopy is a widely recognized method to study the small bowel, including in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). The Lewis score (LS) is a valuable tool in this setting, able to assess inflammatory activity. TOP100, a new software tool of the RAPID Reader®, emerged to assist in the time-consuming capsule reading process, by automatically selecting 100 images that will most likely contain abnormalities.Aim: Evaluate the agreement between TOP100 and classic reading (CR) in determining LS in the setting of CD.Me...

Abstract Advances in medical devices have allowed the use of CT, MRI, and PET-CT for the diagnosis of tumors and the detailed evaluation of the extent of lesions. For several decades, CT has been established as the gold standard modality for the treatment planning of radiotherapy, while MRI has emerged as a tool to evaluate the functional characteristics of tumors without radiation exposure. To further optimize precision radiation therapy, we should consider how functional images can be used in the workflow for radiation therapy. In this regard, MRI, as a modality without the need for a contrast agent, may allow m...

Abstract Ayurveda oil contains numerous source of biological constituents which plays an important role in reducing the pain relief caused during bone fracture. The aim of the study is to fabricate the polyurethane (PU) scaffold for bone tissue engineering added with ayurveda amla oil using electrospinning technique. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis showed that the fabricated nanocomposites showed reduced fiber diameter (758 ± 185.46 nm) than the pristine PU (890 ± 116.91 nm). Fourier Infrared Analysis (FTIR) revealed the existence of amla oil in the PU matrix by hydrogen bond formation. T...

This report describes 2 cases of primary renal carcinoid tumor with unique presentations and management in our regional health care system. Because primary renal carcinoid tumors are quite uncommon, there are no clear established guidelines on preoperative imaging or posttreatment surveillance in patients with these tumors. There remains a large amount of variability in the diagnosis, workup, immunohistochemical analysis, treatment, and surveillance of patients with primary renal carcinoid tumors. As we learn more about this disease, we hope to optimize patient outcomes and standardize pretreatment workup and posttreatment...
