Relationship of CARD8 Gene Polymorphisms with Susceptibility to Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Case-Control Study.
CONCLUSIONS CARD8 polymorphisms are likely to be associated with the elevated susceptibility of AS. Present results should be confirmed in the future studies. PMID: 32080163 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSION: Pityriasis lichenoides chronica should be included among the broad clinical spectrum of chronic inflammatory skin diseases which may occur during treatment with TNF-alpha antagonists. We report olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) treated with etanercept during COVID-19. A 53-year-old female showing AS controlled with tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitor, etanercept, had been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, presenting cough and rhinorrhea. One month after diagnosis, she complained about hyposmia and hypogeusia two days before the seronegative conversion of SARS-CoV-2, which were confirmed by a neurological examination. We speculate that the etanercept may have delayed the development of olfactory and ...

The monoclonal interleukin-17A antagonist has three other indications: ankylosing spondylitis in adults, psoriatic arthritis in adults, and plaque psoriasis in adults and children age 6 and older.Medscape Medical News
ConclusionWe observed widespread retinal vascular leakage at UWF angiography in AS patients (in eyes undergoing active uveitis attacks and inactive eyes).
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the four main types of inflammatory arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriatic arthritis (PA), juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA)) on female fertility.

This article describes the neurologic manifestations of systemic autoimmune diseases. RECENT FINDINGS Systemic autoimmune diseases can be associated with a wide spectrum of neurologic comorbidities involving the central and peripheral nervous systems. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can be associated with a number of manifestations predominantly affecting the central nervous system (CNS), whereas peripheral neuropathy is less common. Sjögren syndrome can be associated with peripheral neuropathy in 10% of cases and CNS disease in 2% to 5% of cases. The risk of stroke is increased in SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, tem...
heng-Chung Chou We developed a label-free, real-time, and highly sensitive nucleic acid biosensor based on fiber optic particle plasmon resonance (FOPPR). The biosensor employs a single-strand deoxyoligonucleotides (ssDNA) probe, conjugated to immobilized gold nanoparticles on the core surface of an optical fiber. We explore the steric effects on hybridization affinity and limit of detection (LOD), by using different ssDNA probe designs and surface chemistries, including diluent molecules of different lengths in mixed self-assembled monolayers, ssDNA probes of different oligonucleotide lengths, ssDNA probes in differen...
ConclusionWe performed quantitative comparative proteomic analysis using by LC –MS/MS of the SF from four disease states: RA, gout, and OA. This systematic comparison revealed novel differentially expressed proteins in AS SF, as well as two previously reported candidate biomarkers. We further verified the expression of MMP3, C9 and CFHR5 by western blot. These proteins may s erve as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers in patients with AS, and may thus improve the clinical outcomes of this serious disease.
