The role of external beam radiation therapy for retinoblastoma after failure of combined chemoreduction and focal consolidation therapy.

Conclusion: Eyes with retinoblastoma that failed chemotherapy followed by focal therapy were controlled with EBRT. However, the presence of vitreous seeds, stage migration during the course of chemotherapy, as well as good vision in the other eye may not justify the known risks of EBRT. Authors: Yao J, Xu M, Liu Z Abstract Effects of Rapamycin on the proliferation and apoptosis of retinoblastoma cells through the phosphatidylinositol 3-hydroxy kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway were studied. The retinoblastoma Y79 cells were selected and divided into negative control group (NC group), 0.2 µM Rapamycin group and 0.4 µM Rapamycin group. Then the proliferative activity of Y79 cells was detected using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8) assay, the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in cells in each group was detected us...

Authors: Wang QS, Wei SR, Xiao HL Abstract Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-associated mortality in China with 85% of patients having non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Identifying NSCLC driver genes and prognostic markers is critical to reducing these numbers. The studies of retinoblastoma binding protein 6 (RBBP6) performed on NSCLC is limited. The present study aimed to investigate the molecular function and the prognostic potential of RBBP6 in NSCLC using the A549 cell line and patient samples, respectively. The functional effect on cancer cell proliferation and prognostic value of RBBP6 were exa...

Abstract Aberrant cell cycle activation is a hallmark of carcinogenesis. Recently three cell cycle targeting cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors have been approved for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. CDK4/6 inhibitors suppress proliferation through inhibition of CDK4/6-dependent retinoblastoma-1 (Rb1) phosphorylation and inactivation, a key regulatory step in G1-to-S-phase transition. Interestingly, aberrant cell cycle activation is also linked with several non-oncological diseases including acute kidney injury (AKI). AKI is a common disorder caused by toxic, inflammatory, and ischemic damag...

In this study, we aimed to determine the expression pattern of LINC00205 in retinoblastoma (RB), to identify its functions in RB progression in detail, and to reveal the underlying mechanisms. Herein, we showed that LINC00205 is highly expressed in RB tissues and cell lines. The LINC00205 upregulation correlated with adverse clinicopathological parameters and shorter overall survival in patients with RB. LINC00205 depletion decreased the proliferative, migratory, and invasive abilities; promoted the apoptosis of RB cells in vitro; and impeded the tumor growth of RB cells in vivo. Mechanism investigation revealed ...

Conclusions: Our results provide baseline reference data and describe the importance of downward trending ADC which should prompt consideration of TRb. Unchanged high/nonrestricted values (>1000) may distinguish those with benign pineal tissue and obviate invasive neurosurgical procedures.

CONCLUSION: The incidence of familial Rb has increased, along with improvement in survival in Finland in 1964-2014, whereas the overall incidence of Rb was stable. Long-term risk of dying of second malignancies after heritable Rb was in line with other countries. PMID: 32217545 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Retinoblastomas represent 6% of all malignant tumors in children under 5 years old, which untreated lead to blindness in the affected eye and death due to metastases. The main symptoms are leukocoria and strabismus, which if possible, always necessitate a clarification within 1 week for exclusion of a retinoblastoma. The most frequent differential diagnoses are Coats' disease and persistent fetal vasculature (PFV) as well as other intraocular tumors, in particular astrocytomas. Systemic chemotherapy, if necessary in combination with laser hyperthermia, local chemotherapy and brachytherapy are the most imp...
