Dose reduction for CT coronary calcium scoring with a calcium-aware image reconstruction technique: a phantom study
ConclusionCT numbers remained consistent with comparable calcium scores when the calcium-aware image reconstruction technique was applied with varying tube voltage. Less consistency was observed in small calcifications with low density. Automatic reduction of tube voltage resulted in a dose reduction of up to 22%.Key Points• The calcium-aware image reconstruction technique allows for consistent CT numbers when varying the tube voltage.• Automatic reduction of tube voltage results in a reduced radiation exposure of up to 22%.• This study stresses the known limitations of the current Agatston score technique.
This report describes 2 cases of primary renal carcinoid tumor with unique presentations and management in our regional health care system. Because primary renal carcinoid tumors are quite uncommon, there are no clear established guidelines on preoperative imaging or posttreatment surveillance in patients with these tumors. There remains a large amount of variability in the diagnosis, workup, immunohistochemical analysis, treatment, and surveillance of patients with primary renal carcinoid tumors. As we learn more about this disease, we hope to optimize patient outcomes and standardize pretreatment workup and posttreatment...
Conclusion: EATL with brain metastasis is a very rare occurrence with dismal prognosis. PMID: 32233276 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSION: This case highlights the utility of LT as a viable treatment option for acute sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis. PMID: 32231764 [PubMed]
CONCLUSION: This case represents the first reported isolated pituitary fossa metastasis from a tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma. A high degree of clinical suspicion is recommended, along with a low threshold for biopsy and a cautioned use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography, when investigating such patients. CONCLUSION: A trained convolutional neural network algorithm appears to successfully identify pneumatisation of the middle turbinate with high accuracy. Further studies can be pursued to test its ability in other clinically important anatomical variants in otolaryngology and rhinology. PMID: 32234081 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Conclusion The RRI, a sub-clinical renal parameter is an atherosclerotic marker in patients without renal impairment. PMID: 32238661 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
This study was undertaken in order to validate the accuracy of the TR protocol for dynamically guided implant surgery. A retrospective, observational, in vivo study was performed using dynamic navigation via the TR protocol. The preoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) plan was superimposed and registered (aligned) with the postoperative CBCT scan to assess accuracy parameters. A total of 136 implants were placed in 59 partially edentulous arches. Mean deviation between the planned and actual position for all implants was 0.67 mm at the coronal level (entry point), 0.9 mm at the apical level, and 0.55 mm in depth,...
Authors: Östman PO, Chu SJ, Drago C, Saito H, Nevins M Abstract Extraction and immediate implant placement/restoration in the esthetic zone is clinically challenging; benefits include fewer surgical appointments and maintenance of peri-implant soft tissues throughout the treatment period, and limitations include gingival recession and bone dehiscence during surgery. Macro-hybrid implants (large-diameter apical/narrow-diameter occlusal) were placed in 19 patients immediately following the extraction of hopeless maxillary anterior teeth. Immediate restorations were fabricated without occlusal contacts. Pre- and ...
This Viewpoint describes infection prevention and control measures implemented in the care of patients with cancer, including use of orally administered anticancer drugs where possible, routine blood tests and lung CT scans, and on-site temperature tests, among others.
ConclusionSarcopenia is a potential early marker of poor prognosis among patients with metastatic BC treated with CDK 4/6 inhibitors. CT scan evaluation of sarcopenia and adiposity revealed significant prognostic information. Visceral fat could also play an important role in response to CDK 4/6 inhibitors, deserving further investigation.
