Positive findings of ethyl glucuronide in hair of young children from families with addiction background

ConclusionAlthough accidental or voluntary intake of alcoholic beverages cannot be excluded, the external contamination of children ’s hair by EtG-containing wine and sweat or urine of the alcohol abusing parents is assumed to be the most probable explanation for the positive EtG results in hair of 1–5-year-old children.

CONCLUSION: For the first time, we could show that a larger oxytocin-induced attenuation of amygdala response to fearful faces is associated with lower subjective craving for alcohol and percentage of heavy drinking days in social drinkers. Modulation of amygdala activation, induced by emotional stimuli, might represent a neurobiological substrate of oxytocin's protective effects on drug seeking behavior. AbstractAlthough there is extensive literature on the processes and outcomes of drug and alcohol dependence treatments, little is known about specific predictors of treatment effectiveness. The present study aims to identify the predictors of abstinence in outpatient drug and alcohol dependence treatments, as well as the predictors of treatment effectiveness, according to a biopsychosocial approach. The study followed a cross-sectional research design. Participants (n = 290) were recruited from an outpatient treatment of the Intervention Division in Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies (DICAD), in the norther...

In conclusion, in this self-recruited population with moderate to high fitness involvement, problem gambling was moderately elevated. As shown previously in elite athletes, the male predominance was larger than in the general population. The findings strengthen the link between problem gambling and the world of sports.

Since we are living in a time of extremely high statistical occurrences of childhood anxiety, depression and even suicide (which is happening at even younger ages), we need to look at the causes that are behind these difficult challenges that children, teens and young adults are facing today. Whether it be parental influences, interactions with abusive outsiders, school bullying, or something else, mental illnesses are growing at a rampant rate.  When mental illness is not alleviated, it can create C-PTSD (compound or complex PTSD), so it’s critical to reverse it early. What sometimes keeps the underlying factor...

This study assesses the frequency, motivations, and adverse effects of energy drink consumption, and examines how the process of becoming a regular consumer is connected with sense of coherence and depression symptoms. A total of 631 high school and college students were assessed using the Depression Scale (BDS-13) and Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-13). Logistic regression models were fit to test the effect of and links between factors influencing addiction to energy drink use. A total of 31.1% (95% CI: 27.4–34.7) of those surveyed consumed energy drinks, 24.0% of those affected consumed the energy drink with alc...
