Behavioral abnormalities and phosphorylation deficits of extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 in rat offspring of the maternal immune activation model

In this study, polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid was administered to rats intravenously at a dose of 10 mg/kg on embryonic day 9.5 to produce MIA. The effect of MIA on behavior and ERK phosphorylation within the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus of adolescent and adult offspring were explored. We also examined neurofilaments, a marker of neurogenesis, which have been reported to be modulated by ERK signaling. The results demonstrate an age- and region-specific profile of ERK expression and phosphorylation and suggest possible relationships among ERK, neurofilament expression, and cognitive performance in schizophrenia.

Authors: Kolomeets NS, Uranova NA Abstract There is increasing evidence to support the notion that oligodendrocyte and myelin abnormalities may contribute to the functional dysconnectivity found in the major psychiatric disorders. The putamen, which is an important hub in the cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical loop, has been implicated in a broad spectrum of psychiatric illnesses and is a central target of their treatments. Previously we reported a reduction in the numerical density of oligodendrocytes and oligodendrocyte clusters in the prefrontal and parietal cortex in schizophrenia. Oligodendrocyte clusters contai...

ConclusionsThe state of the pharmacoepigenetic literature on antipsychotic use is still in its early stages and uniform reporting of methylation site information is needed. Future work should concentrate on using prospective sampling with appropriate control groups and begin to replicate many of the novel associations that have been reported.

Conclusions: Certain modifiable risk factors play an inescapable role in increasing the level of burden among caregivers of older patients with serious mental illnesses.Clinical Implications: Improving the quality of life and psychological well-being of family caregivers should be considered an integral part of treatment for serious mental illness in older adult patients. In this study, we aim to explore the relationship between CRP (C-reactive protein) levels and agitation in patients with schizophrenia. METHODS: We conducted a cohort study with a comparison group of 60 patients with a DSM5 diagnosis of schizophrenia who were followed by the Department of Psychiatry of the University Hospital of Marrakech in Morocco. Patients were divided into two groups according to the state of agitation evaluated by the PANSS Excitement scale. These two groups have been matched according to age and gender. A comparison of CRP level, clinical and laboratory characteristics between the two groups and ...

Authors: Lakhlifi M, Laprevote V, Schwan R, Schwitzer T Abstract Several studies have investigated visual processing impairment in schizophrenia. The literature on visual exploration has described restricted scanning in schizophrenia patients. This gaze behavior is characterized by increased fixation duration, a reduced scan path length and avoidance of salient features of the face with emotional content. The aim of this paper is to give an insight on the latest update on scan path deficit. Abnormal gaze exploration was replicated in various visual stimuli. This review describes gaze patterns with stimuli that impl...

CONCLUSION: Pre-specified sensitivity analyses showed separation from placebo for brexpiprazole at Week 6. A post-hoc analysis suggested a potential confounding of efficacy rating towards symptom improvement in patients who experience known side effects of quetiapine XR. This study aimed to investigate epigenetic modulations of the hepatic PPARγ pathway in olanzapine-induced lipid dysfunctions. Olanzapine led to significant increases of body weight gain, white adipose tissue, fasting triglyceride, and fat accumulation in the liver. A significant upregulation of PPARγ was observed in olanzapine-treated rats. ChIP-deep sequencing showed the increase of H3K4me2 binding on the whole gene loci of key regulators of adipogenesis and lipogenesis, the Pparg, Srebp-1, Cebps families (Cebpa, Cebpb and Cebpd), the Signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 families (Stat5a and Stat...

The participants were 291 SSD patients and 302 healthy controls that were assessed with a comprehensive neurocognitive battery. In addition, the patients were assessed with the Specific Level...
