Were infections in migrants associated with the resurgence of measles epidemic during 2013 –2014 in southern China? A retrospective data analysis
Measles is an exclusively human disease caused by a type of paramyxovirus that infects the respiratory system and leads to symptoms including runny nose, cough, conjunctivitis, high fever, and a characteristic rash spreading from the face (World Health Organization, 2018). Measles can be transmitted through air and direct contact. It is highly contagious, and an estimated nine out of 10 non-immune people exposed to an infected person will become infected. There is no specific antiviral treatment at the moment (Centres for Disease Control and Protection (US), 2017).
