Prognostic value of the albumin-to-alkaline phosphatase ratio on urologic outcomes in patients with non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma following curative nephrectomy

Conclusions: Preoperative AAPR might be an independent prognostic factor in patients with non-metastatic RCC. The ratio should be applied in RCC patients for risk stratification and clinical decision-making.

e Rha Cho Ham The molecular characteristics of early-stage clear cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCCs) measuring ≤7 cm associated with poor clinical outcomes remain poorly understood. Here, we sought to validate genes associated with ccRCC progression and identify candidate genes to predict ccRCC aggressiveness. From among 1069 nephrectomies performed on patients, RNA sequencing was performed for 12 ccRCC patients with aggressive characteristics and matched pairs of 12 ccRCC patients without aggressive characteristics. Using a prospective cohort (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03694912), the expression...

CONCLUSIONS: Tumor stage and its substages represent extremely important determinants of prognosis after lengthy event-free follow-up. The recorded observations have critical importance for physicians regarding patient follow-up and counseling. PMID: 31910387 [PubMed - in process]

We present our single centre experience in transplanted patients and future candidates for transplantation. Methods: Retrospective analysis from an anonymised database of bilateral nephrectomies for ADPKD patients. Results were reported as median, range, and percentage. Differences between groups were tested using ANOVA and t-test. Surgery was performed between January 2012 and July 2018. Results: Thirty-three patients underwent bilateral native nephrectomy for APKD. 18 had a functioning kidney transplant (transplant group, 55%) while 15 patients were on dialysis (dialysis group, 45%) at the time of surgery; 8 pa...

CONCLUSIONS: The single-port approach has advantages as easier surgical planning and transition for combined and multi-quadrants surgeries: faster recovery, minimal postoperative pain and need for opioids, and excellent cosmetic outcome. We suggest that combined procedures should be performed only in high volume institutions by surgeons with vast experience in robotic surgery in selected patients. CONCLUSIONS: We report that delayed and immediate nephrectomy for cT1a renal cell carcinoma confers comparable long-term OS. These findings suggest that a period of observation of between 6 and 12 months is safe to allow identification of renal masses, which will benefit from surgical resection. In this study CTCs were measured by the FISHMAN-R system, and CTCs drawn from a peripheral artery were collected just before and immediately after surgery. The number of pre- and postoperative CTCs and the perioperative changes in CTCs were measured for each surgical method.ResultsSix patients were excluded from the current analyses. Preoperative CTCs did not differ significantly by surgical approach (laparoscopic RN: 3.4  ± 4.2; laparoscopic PN: 3.4 ± 4.1; open RN: 7.7 ± 6.8; open PN: 6.0 ± 7.6;P = 0.19). Open RN resulted in ...

Authors: Kotulak-Chrzaszcz A, Klacz J, Matuszewski M, Kmiec Z, Wierzbicki PM Abstract Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common and the most aggressive histopathological subtype of kidney cancer, with patients exhibiting high mortality rates for metastatic tumors. The Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) pathway serves a crucial role in embryonic development. The abnormal activity of SHH signaling is observed in a broad range of malignancies. However, its role in ccRCC is still undetermined. The aim of the present study was to assess the expression of the SHH pathway genes in ccRCC. Neoplastic and morphologically ...
