In this study, we aimed to stress the importance of antrum wall thickness in CT examination. Method: The study included 111 patients between ages of 18 and 95 who had antral wall thickening in computed tomography and also had endoscopic evaluation performed in the same clinic. The patients were divided into two groups as benign and malignant according to the pathology results. The thickness of the antrum wall in computed tomography, hemoglobin and albumin levels, and age was compared among these two groups. Parameters with significant differences were further analyzed by multivariate analysis using logistic regression ...

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of excision repair crosscomplementing group 1 (ERCC1) rs11615 codon 118C/T gene polymorphisms ontreatment outcomes in Iranian patients receiving oxaliplatin-based regimens forcolorectal (CRC) and gastric cancers (GC). Patients, who were candidates to receiveoxaliplatin-based chemotherapy, entered into the study. In 2-week intervals, thepatients received combination regimen of oxaliplatin, fluorouracil, and leucovorin(FOLFOX) for 3 months. ERCC1 rs11615 codon 118C/T polymorphism was testedby restriction fragment length polymorphism polymerase chain reaction (RFLPPCR)method usin...

Abstract OBJECTIVES: To assess metastatic involvement of perigastric lymph nodes (PLNs) in patients with T1 gastric cancer by using CT perfusion imaging (CTPI). METHODS: A total of 82 annotated PLNs of 33 patients with T1 gastric cancer confirmed by endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) underwent CTPI and portal Phase CT scan before operation. The scan data were postprocessed to acquire perfusion maps and calculate perfusion parameters including blood flow (BF) and permeability surface (PS). A radiologist measured the short axis diameters and perfusion parameters of PLNs. According to the post-operative pathology ...

Conclusion: Our data suggest that lean body mass can be a relevant prognostic factor in patients with gastric or esophageal cancer, and that CT measurements should be included in the routine preoperative evaluation, because it may provide information that aids nutritional and clinical care for these patients.Resumo Objetivo: Investigar se medidas antropom étricas e tomografia computadorizada (TC) da composição corporal podem predizer morbimortalidade pós-operatória em pacientes com câncer gástrico e/ou esofágico. ConclusionHigh SUVmax and high MTV of the primary tumor suggest a high risk of recurrence for AGC patients. Even if SUVmax is similar, the prognosis may vary depending on MTV. Combining PET parameters results in a better prediction for prognosis.

A 50-year-old woman presented with stomach discomfort. The patient had undergone a lobular breast cancer (LBC) surgery 17 years previously. On physical examination, mild upper abdominal tenderness was detected. Laboratory tests did not show any notable findings. Abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a gastric wall thickening (Fig. 1A, arrow). Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed diffuse hypertrophic gastric folds (Fig. 1B). Biopsy specimens from the folds showed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (Fig.

Rationale: Migration of endoclips and stitches into the duodenum after laparoscopic hepatectomy is incredibly rare with a poorly understood mechanism. Patient concerns: A 56-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic left hepatectomy and cholecystectomy in August 2016 was admitted to our hospital with nausea and vomiting in December 2017. Diagnoses: Abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showed high density shades in duodenal ampulla. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed deformation of the duodenal ampulla into two lumens; hem-o-lock clips and stitches were detected in the upper lumen. Contrast enhanced CT scan reveal...

Computed tomographic (CT) imaging at third lumbar vertebra (L3), routinely used by oncologists, represents a reliable tool to quantify muscle mass. A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to assess the efficacy of CT scan to define muscle mass as a prognostic marker in GC patients undergoing gastrectomy and/or chemotherapy. The primary outcomes were overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) and the secondary outcomes included postoperative length of hospital stay (P-LOS), total and severe complications in GC patients undergoing gastrectomy.
