Retrospective Assessment of Desmopressin Effectiveness and Safety in Patients With Antiplatelet-Associated Intracranial Hemorrhage*

Conclusions: DDAVP was associated with a decreased likelihood of intracranial hemorrhage expansion during the first 24 hours. DDAVP administration did not significantly affect serum sodium and thrombotic events during the study period.

AbstractObjectiveTo assess bone thickness augmentation and implant survival in ridges with horizontal atrophy managed through split crest technique with concomitant installation of dental implants.Materials and MethodsThirteen patients with maxillary bone atrophy underwent surgery and had their bone thickness assessed through cone beam computed tomography 6  months pre- and postoperatively. Comparative measurements of initial and final bone height and thickness were taken using Dolphin Imaging® 11.5 software. The distance between the nasal fossa floor or the maxillary sinus and the alveolar crest determined the bo...

AbstractAims/hypothesisThe aim of this study was to use Mendelian randomisation (MR) to identify the causal risk factors for type 2 diabetes.MethodsWe first conducted a review of meta-analyses and review articles to pinpoint possible risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Around 170 possible risk factors were identified of which 97 risk factors with available genetic instrumental variables were included in MR analyses. To reveal more risk factors that were not included in our MR analyses, we conducted a review of published MR studies of type 2 diabetes. For our MR analyses, we used summary-level data from the DIAbetes Genetics ...

Abstract We designed an experiment to optimize the hydrothermal modification of iron on anodized TiO2 nanotubes. A central composite design that included five design points was used to determine the condition parameters for hydrothermal reaction time (1-5 h) and hydrothermal temperature (120-180 °C). A statistical method was used to observe the effects of hydrothermal conditions on the material properties and photocatalytic activity of a Fe-TiO2 nanotube catalyst. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis shows the iron is doped on the TNTs, which is further confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray sp...

This study investigated the microplastics distribution, characteristics and risks in urban water of different cities in the Tuojiang River basin in southwest China. Microplastics were found in all seven cities of the Tuojiang River basin and the concentrations varied from 911.57 ± 199.73 to 3395.27 ± 707.22 items/m3, among which Ziyang urban water had the highest microplastics concentration. Fiber (34.88-65.85%) was a typical and abundant microplastic type. The small size (0.5-1 mm) (27.27-66.67%) was predominant, and white (23.30-54.29%) was the dominant color among all samples. Poly...

We present the case of a 26-year-old woman living at a high altitude diagnosed initially with nonfamilial and nonsecretory localized carotid body tumor managed with surgery, which developed into a recurrent metastatic tumor treated with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and dacarbazine. The patient continued to progress and developed a left carotid artery thrombosis and worsening of her systemic symptoms. The patient was re-evaluated, and she decided on no further surgery or systemic therapy. DOTATATE positron emission tomography/computed tomography showed widespread somatostatin-avid disease involving the left carotid bulb m...

Conclusion: Copeptin levels in this infant are consistent with levels described in adults and older children. Obtaining copeptin levels may improve providers ’ ability to quickly diagnose and manage SIADH amongst other heterogeneous causes of hyponatremia. Lastly, trending copeptin levels improved providers’ ability to monitor SIADH progression, and may allow preemptive fluid titration for children with bi- or tri-phasic shifts in osmoregulation afte r neurological procedures.Horm Res Paediatr

Authors: Weitzel WF, Rajaram N, Zheng Y, Thelen BJ, Krishnamurthy VN, Hamilton J, Lora MAF, Morgan T, Shih AJ, Yessayan L Abstract We used novel open source software, based on an ultrasound speckle tracking algorithm, to examine the distensibility of the vessel wall of the inflow artery, anastomosis, and outflow vein before and after two procedures. An 83-year-old white man with a poorly maturing radio-cephalic fistula received an angioplasty at the anastomosis followed by branch ligation 28 days later. Duplex Doppler measurements corroborated the blood flow related changes anticipated from the interventions...
