Value of Fluoroscopic Defecography in Constipated Children with Abnormal Colon Transit Time Test Results.

Conclusions: FD was valuable for both diagnoses of underlying causes and interpretation of CTT test results in children with abnormal CTT test results. Therefore, this study suggests that FD and CTT test should be incorporated into logical thinking for constipation in children. PMID: 31715093 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsMultiple myeloma has myriad presentations. Gastrointestinal involvement, although rare, can manifest as small bowel obstruction for which early recognition and appropriate surgical management are key to improving outcome. Intussusception is the most common mechanism of obstruction from extramedullary plasmacytoma causing small bowel obstruction and this has been seen in five of six case reports, including this case. It is important to recognize and consider the risks of immunosuppression, venous thromboembolism, and malnutrition in the surgical management of gastrointestinal complications of multiple myeloma.

This study was carried out in accordance with approval of the Melbourne Health and Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research's Human Research Ethics Committee (approval number: 2013.081). All subjects gave written informed consent for participation and publication. Results and Discussion TGF-β signaling in NK cells is associated with: phosphorylation in SMAD2 and 3, inhibition of IL-15-induced metabolism/proliferation, simultaneous downregulation of CD44, CD49e, and Eomes, and upregulation of CD16 and CD49a expression (7, 10). SMAD family member 4 (SMAD4) belongs to the SMAD family of transcription...

Conclusions: Patients with gastroparesis had a higher rate of slow transit constipation, but equal rates of dyssynergic defecation compared to patients with normal gastric emptying. These findings argue for investigation of possible delayed colonic transit in patients with gastroparesis and vice versa. PMID: 30870880 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionAlthough extremely rare, intussusception should be included in the differential diagnosis of neonatal intestinal obstruction, even in the preterms as delayed diagnosis will further result in gangrene and perforation as well as deterioration of the baby's general condition.

CONCLUSIONS: The STARR technique performed with a single stapler CPH34HV is safe, faster and less expensive than the STARR performed by a double PPH01. Besidas, with the parachute technique, it is possible to resect asymmetric prolapses. PMID: 30620165 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The aim of this current study was to explore the risk factors associated with failure of hydrostatic reduction of intussusception in pediatric patients. Patients with intussusception treated with hydrostatic reduction from January 2010 to December 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. Candidates for inclusion in the study were children from 0 to 18 who were diagnosed with intussusception and treated with hydrostatic reduction. We excluded the patients who had contraindications for hydrostatic reduction, which included peritonitis, perforation signs, and non-responsive shock that required surgery. The data collected included...

This study characterizes constipation in patients with obstructed defecation syndrome and identifies whether internal intussusception or other diagnoses such as irritable bowel syndrome may be contributing to symptoms. DESIGN: Patients evaluated for obstructed defecation at a pelvic floor disorder center were studied from a prospectively maintained database. With the use of defecography, patients were classified by Oxford Rectal Prolapse Grade. Coexisting disorders such as enterocele, rectocele, and dyssynergia were also identified. The presence of irritable bowel syndrome was defined using Rome IV criteria, and constip...
