In vitro Digestion of Polysaccharide Including Whey Protein Isolate Hydrogels

In this study, polysaccharide blended whey protein isolate (WPI) based hydrogels were loaded with black carrot (Daucus carota) concentrate (BC) and in vitro gastrointestinal release measurements were performed. Prior to 6 h digestion in simulated intestinal fluid (SIF), all hydrogels were exposed to simulated gastric fluid (SGF) for 2 h. Pectin (PC), gum tragacanth (GT) and xanthan gum (XG) were the polysaccharides used with WPI to manipulate the release behavior. Physico-chemical changes of the hydrogels throughout the digestion were evaluated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry measurements. Each polysaccharide induced different physico-chemical interactions within the hydrogels due to their distinct structural characteristics. Polysaccharide blending to hydrogels also retarded the release rates in all samples in SIF (p

Authors: Sun PO, Schyns MVP, Walbeehm ET Abstract Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most frequently operated neurological disorder of the hand. Incidence of patients remaining symptomatic has been reported up to 30% after primary release. Revision surgery remains challenging although multiple surgical options have been described. In this case series a simple novel technique, the palmaris longus interposition, is described for the treatment of recurrent and persistent CTS. Patients who underwent PLI between October 2013 and 2018 and without underlying neurological or hand disorders severely affecting the operated ...

Conclusion: It was demonstrated that λ/2- and λ/4-pitch configurations result in better LR and contrast than λ-pitch configuration. Significance: Based on the results obtained, the proposed method has the potential to serve as an easy-to-integrate and simple way of achieving better image quality without requiring to increase the system complexity with existing transducer array probe technology in regular clinical- scanners.

Nonintubated thoracic surgery arose as supplemental evolution of minimally invasive surgery and is gaining popularity. A proper nonintubated thoracic surgery unit is mandatory and should involve surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensive care physicians, physiotherapists, psychologists, and scrub and ward nurses. Surgical training should involve experienced and young surgeons. It deserves a step-by-step approach and consolidated experience on video-assisted thoracic surgery. Due to difficulty in reproducing lung and diaphragm movements, training with simulation systems may be of scant value; instead, preceptorships and invited...

Conclusion: No tumor-related frequencies were found, neither using systematic scans of frequencies nor published specific frequencies. There might obviously be differences between animal and human models, but our approach did not confirm the physiological data of the human Pasche group data. Authors: Cheng Y, Bai L, Shang J, Tang Y, Ling X, Guo B, Gong J, Wang L, Xu H Abstract The present study aimed to assess the performance of positron emission tomography‑magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MR) for the visualization and characterization of lesions. In addition, the present study investigated whether the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and intravoxel incoherent motion parameters exhibited any significant correlation with standardized uptake values (SUV) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). A total of 35 patients with NPC underwent whole body PET‑computed tomography (CT) and head ...

In this study, 6-deoxy-6-arginine modified chitosan (DAC), was synthesized and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and elemental analysis. The arginine was grafted onto C6 groups of chitosan. Antibacterial activity of DAC against gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) and gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) were investigated at concentration between 0.02 mg/mL and 10 mg/mL. Cell viability assessment was estimated in vitro with Caco-2 and L929 cells. Water solubility...

Consequently, it is still a challenge to develop PUHs combined with excellent strength and toughness. Here, a new type of PUHs is synthesized through using polyethylene glycol, isophorone diisocyanate, trimethylolpropane (TMP) and polyphenol compound resveratrol (RST...

Publication date: Available online 21 November 2019Source: Catalysis TodayAuthor(s): Qiang Zhang, Chaoyang LiAbstractThe mist chemical vapor deposition method was used to synthesize pure anatase phase titanium dioxide thin films on glass substrates. The effects of water-to-methanol ratio on the structural, optical and photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide thin films were investigated. Titanium dioxide films deposited by mist chemical vapor deposition were always anatase phase independent of the various water-to-methanol ratios investigated. From the GIXRD results, it was found that with the decrease of the water-to...
