GDNF enhances the anti-inflammatory effect of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy in renal interstitial fibrosis

In conclusion, in vitro cultured AMSCs induced a shift in macrophage phenotype from the inflammatory (M1) phenotype to the reparative (M2) phenotype. In the UUO model, AMSC treatment was conducive to the recovery of renal function and interstitial fibrosis. Therefore, we determined that AMSC therapy could promote the phenotypic transformation of macrophages and reduce the progression of renal fibrosis by suppressing inflammation. GDNF could enhance the anti-inflammatory effect of AMSCs.Graphical Abstract
