1.51 nocturnal enuresis can affect the severity of bipolar disorder in youth

Depressive and manic episodes of bipolar disorder (BD) can  interact with sleep complaints. Sleep loss may be one warning signal that can appear before an episode of depression or mania, and it may contribute to relapse in BD as a prodrome of an early symptom. Patients with nocturnal enuresis have been associated with sleep instability, and it can be a si gn of vulnerability of depression. The aim of this study was to examine the interaction of the sleep illness, such as nocturnal enuresis in BD in youth in their depressive and manic episode.

CONCLUSION: Findings unequivocally establish that sleep disturbances are highly prevalent in SMs and veterans with TBI. However, studies testing the effectiveness of treatments for improving sleep in military groups with TBI have been limited and their results inconsistent. This review highlights a critical opportunity for advancing military medicine through future research aimed at identifying and testing sleep-focused treatments in SMs and veterans with combat-related TBI. Authors: Moritz S, Bernardini J, Lion D Abstract Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and major depression disorder (MDD) are underdiagnosed and undertreated mental disorders. Prior studies have verified the efficacy of the self-help manual My Metacognitive Training (myMCT) for patients with primary OCD. As depression and OCD share a number of (meta)cognitive biases and dysfunctional coping strategies, we examined the efficacy of myMCT in a mixed patient sample with OCD and/or depression. A total of 80 Italian-speaking individuals with symptoms of OCD and/or depression were randomized to either myMCT or to a waitlis...

Authors: Amini-Tehrani M, Nasiri M, Jalali T, Sadeghi R, Ghotbi A, Zamanian H Abstract BACKGROUND: Suicide is increasing in young Iranian population, which necessitates the employing of valid, yet abridged instruments assessing the constellation of suicide-related behaviors. The study aimed at validating Suicide Behavior Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) among Iranian undergraduates. METHODS: A total of 487 undergraduates were surveyed in 2018. Construct validity of SBQ-R was examined via confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Spearman's correlation with two single-item indices of suicide acceptability (SA) and li...

The objective of the study was to assess the levels of neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM 1) and interleukin-10 and their association with disease severity in bipolar disorder. 40 bipolar disorder I patients with acute manic symptoms and 40 age matched controls were enrolled in the study. Neural cell adhesion molecule 1 and interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels were assessed in both the groups. NCAM 1 and interleukin-10 levels were significantly increased in bipolar disorder when compared with controls. There was significant positive correlation of Young Mania Rating score with NCAM 1 (r = 0.538, p =

CONCLUSION: This is the first study to characterize the neurocognitive effects of combined RUL-UB ECT and venlafaxine in elderly adults with MDD and provides new evidence for the tolerability of RUL-UB ECT in an elderly sample. Of the cognitive domains assessed, only phonemic fluency, complex visual scanning, and cognitive flexibility qualitatively declined from low average to mildly impaired. While some acute changes in neurocognitive performance were statistically significant, the majority of the indices as based on the effect sizes remained relatively stable. Authors: Kang SG, Kim YK Abstract Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the treatment of choice for insomnia; however, it is not widely used due to a lack of experienced therapists and its relatively high clinical cost. Recently, Internet and mobile CBT-I have been developed to replace face-to-face CBT-I, and research on this topic has been increasing. In addition, attempts have been made to use wearable devices for sleep-wake estimation. Studies on digital CBT-I thus far have shown favorable treatment effects in general, but the problem of a high dropout rate has not been sufficiently improved. In a...

Authors: Muneer A Abstract Major psychiatric disorders are linked to early mortality and patients afflicted with these ailments demonstrate an increased risk of developing physical diseases that are characteristically seen in the elderly. Psychiatric conditions like major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia may be associated with accelerated cellular aging, indicated by shortened leukocyte telomere length (LTL), which could underlie this connection. Telomere shortening occurs with repeated cell division and is reflective of a cell's mitotic history. It is also influenced by cumulative...
