Transforming growth factor- β1 and hypoxia inducible factor-1α synergistically inhibit the osteogenesis of periodontal ligament stem cells.

In conclusion, our results showed that TGF-β1 can induce the stabilization of HIF-1α in PDLSCs under nonhypoxic conditions, that HIF-1α can negatively regulate the TGF-β1/Smad3 signal pathway in PDLSCs, and that TGF-β1 and HIF-1α can synergistically inhibit the osteogenesis of PDLSCs.
