Fons van de Vijver, 1952–2019.

This article memorializes Fons van de Vijver, 1952–2019. Alphonsius Josephus Rachel (Fons) van de Vijver, Professor of Cross-Cultural Psychology at Tilburg University (The Netherlands), North-West University (South Africa), University of Queensland (Australia), and National Research University, Higher School of Economics (Russia), suddenly passed away on June 1, 2019, in Brisbane (Australia). He (co-)authored over 400 publications, mainly but not exclusively, in the domain of cross-cultural psychology, and on the deepening of methods and assessment. The main topics in his research involved bias and equivalence, psychological acculturation and multiculturalism, both cognitive similarities and differences, response styles, translations and adaptations. He supervised about 40 PhD studies and 5 post-doc studies. His knowledge has been spread in a number of courses, seminars, workshops, and keynotes in countless countries all over the world where he taught and lectured about cross-cultural psychology, methods, and assessment.
