Systemic Sclerosis with Focus on Scleroderma Renal Crisis.

This report has basically focused on scleroderma renal crisis (SRC), which is the most serious renal manifestation of SSc, characterized by renal failure and sudden onset of hypertension. A 44-year-old man was hospitalized with hypertension, headache, vertigo, nausea, rhinorrhea, reflux, dysphagia, dyspnea (Fc II), visual impairment, mechanical arthralgia, and edema (+3) accompanied by a rare skin lesion. Raynaud's phenomenon was also remarkable in fingers and toes. According to signs and symptoms, SSc diagnosed and the proper treatment was applied. It is of great importance that in the case of malignant hypertension in patients with scleroderma, renal crisis always be kept in mind. PMID: 31209194 [PubMed - in process]

However, patients with very early and early disease, characterised by main inflammatory component, may benefit from CS therapy. The aim of this review is to discuss pros and cons of CS treatment in SSc, providing current evidence about the use of CS in SSc. Moreover, we discuss also the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms tha...

We report the results of experimental study of this method using a fresh Neosepta® AMX membrane (Astom, Japan) and the same membrane after its ND operation for about 400 h. As well, we describe a new non-steady state mathematical model of the ND process in batch mode. The model is based on the Nernst-Planck equations and considers a cell containing an acid, a saline and an alkali compartments separated by a cation- and an anion-exchange membrane. The incomplete dissociation degree of secondary and tertiary amino groups present in the used AMX membrane is taken into account as a function of the local pH value. It is a...

Abstract BACKGROUND: The impact of institutional case volume to graft failure rate after adult kidney transplantation is relatively unclear compared to other solid organ transplantations. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of 13,872 adult kidney transplantations in Korea was performed. Institutions were divided into low- ( 60 cases/year) volume centers depending on the annual case volume. One-year graft failure rate was defined as the proportion of patients who required dialysis or re-transplantation at one year after transplantation. Postoperative in-hospital mortality and long-term graft survival were al...
