A simultaneous presentation of drug-induced lupus with drug-induced ANCA vasculitis secondary to hydralazine use in a patient with sarcoidosis. Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2019 Apr;32(2):231-234 Authors: Espinosa MC, Ding B, Choi K, Cohen DN, Marcelli M, Ifoeze OW Abstract Frequently used in the management of hypertension and heart failure, hydralazine is associated with the development of adverse rheumatologic side effects. The authors highlight a unique case of drug-induced lupus and drug-induced anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) vasculitis from hydralazine use in a 50-year-old man with sarcoidosis and hypertension. Importance: Hospitals that serve poorer populations have higher readmission rates. It is unknown whether these hospitals effectively lowered readmission rates in response to the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP). Objective: To compare pre-post differences in readmission rates among hospitals with different proportion of dual-eligible patients both generally and among the most highly penalized (ie, low performing) hospitals. Design: Retrospective cohort study using piecewise linear model with estimated hospital-level risk-standardized readmission rates (RSRRs) as the dependent variable and a change poin...

Abstract Preeclampsia (PE) is termed as an obstetric issue that is characterized by hypertension (≧140/90 mm Hg), together with proteinuria following 20 weeks of pregnancy. Until today, PE still constitutes a severe threat to the lives of both the mothers and fetuses. In the past, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) were considered as the transcriptional noise. However, some investigations have indicated that lncRNAs could be used as innovative indicators in PE. The current review aims to discuss the relationship between lncRNAs and PE in recent years. According to the retrieved data, we concluded that lncRNAs ...

Chattipakorn, Nipon C. hattipakornAbstractThe cancer burden on health and socioeconomics remains exceedingly high, with more than ten million new cases reported worldwide in 2018. The financial cost of managing cancer patients has great economic impact on both an individual and societal levels. Currently, many chemotherapeutic agents are available to treat various malignancies. One of these agents is doxorubicin, which was isolated from Streptomyces peucetius in the 1960...

RaizadaAbstractPulmonary hypertension (PH) is classically considered a disease of pulmonary vasculature which has been the predominant target for drug development and pH therapy. Despite significant advancement in recent years in identification of new drug targets and innovative treatment strategies, the prognosis of pH remains poor, with median survival of 5 years. Recent studies have demonstrated involvement of neuroinflammation, altered autonomic and gastrointestinal functions and...

We report the case of a 47-year-old man who was diagnosed with severe right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) stenosis due to a space-occupying lesion; the diagnosis was made using computed tomography. He underwent mass reduction, pulmonary valve replacement, and RVOT reconstruction with a bovine pericardial patch. The pathological diagnosis was undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma originating from the myocardium. As the mass resection was incomplete, he received heavy particle therapy. He did not want to receive adjuvant chemotherapy. Four months later, severe RVOT stenosis recurred because the residual mass had invaded th...

Authors: Glöckl R, Schneeberger T, Boeselt T, Kenn K, Koczulla AR, Held M, Oberhoffer R, Halle M Abstract BACKGROUND:  Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is defined as an elevation of mean pulmonary-arterial pressure by> 20 mmHg at rest, which may lead to right heart failure. Physical exercise has not been regularly recommended for PH patients for fear of symptom deterioration or occurrence of exercise-induced adverse events. METHODS:  Three electronic databases were searched for randomized, controlled trials investigating exercise training in PH patients using the following keywords: "pulmo...

Authors: Damaskos C, Garmpis N, Kollia P, Mitsiopoulos G, Barlampa D, Drosos A, Patsouras A, Gravvanis N, Antoniou V, Litos A, Diamantis E Abstract The globalization of the Western lifestyle has resulted in a dramatic increase of diabetes mellitus, a complex, multifactorial disease. Diabetes mellitus is a condition often associated with disorders of the cardiovascular system. It is well established that three quarters of diabetics, aged over 40, will die from cardiovascular disease and are more likely than non-diabetics to die from their first cardiovascular event. Therefore, risk stratification is necessary to ind...
