Extracellular matrix and the immune system: friends or foes

Nature Reviews Urology, Published online: 20 May 2019; doi:10.1038/s41585-019-0196-0A new study describes antitumour cell activity inherent in the extracellular matrix of porcine urinary bladder, which is not the result of direct tumour cell killing but is indirectly mediated through immune cells. The findings highlight opportunities to explore shared interests of the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and the immunology and cancer communities.
