Selective muscle botulinum toxin A component paralysis in complex ventral hernia repair
ConclusionPreoperative selective muscle chemical component paralysis is an effective technique to counteract the chronic muscle retraction observed in large ventral hernias. Transversus abdominis plays a significant role in truncal and spinal stability, and sparing it from paralysis preserves an important component of abdominal wall physiology and does not detract from the ability to primarily close complex defects.
Conclusions. Complex hernia repairs using bioabsorbable mesh were conducted in a small cohort of high-risk patients. These data demonstrate good outcomes with limited morbidity and mortality. There were no recurrences. PMID: 31617453 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSIONS: This small, retrospective series of complex open CST in transplant patients shows acceptable rates of long-term hernia recurrence and healing. By using a multidisciplinary approach for abdominal wall reconstruction, we believe that modified open CST with biologic mesh is a safe and effective technique in the transplant population with complex abdominal hernias. ConclusionTo the best of our knowledge, this is the largest retrospective single institutional study evaluating PADCI to date. Hernias repaired with PADCI were frequently in patients undergoing concomitant operations. The surgical treatment of giant incisional hernias with loss of domain is challenging due to the possibility of intra-abdominal hypertension after the herniated content is returned to the peritoneal cavity.
