Net Revenue Generation for Hospitals on the Basis of Physician Speciality

I have previously blogged about the wait time for primary care physicians in the U.S. (see:PCP and Family Physician Wait Times increasing 50% in Many Markets) and the fact that many health systems may be limiting the number of PCPs on their staff because they do not generate as much revenueper capitaas specialized physicians (see: same reference as above). This is because PCPs don't perform procedures like surgeons or interventional cardiologists who are highly reimbursed by our healthcare system. Along these same lines, I came across an article that discusses hospital revenue generated per physician by speciality and focuses on the need for hospitals to retain their physician staff (see:One more reason to focus on retaining physicians: They generate $2.4 million for their hospitals). Below is an excerpt from it:...[A] new survey from physician search firm Merritt Hawkins reveals...[that [p]hysicians ...serve as major drivers of hospital revenue.The survey said physicians generate an average $2,378,727 per year in net revenue on behalf of their affiliated hospitals, up 52 percent from 2016.
