Non-ketotic hyperosmolar hyperglycemic chorea

We report this case of a rare complication of chronic pancreatitis to show that color-Doppler ultrasound is a non-invasive and effective diagnostic tool for pseudoaneurysm, which enables early detection and prompt treatment without the need for invasive diagnostic modalities.

CONCLUSIONS Testing at maximum dorsiflexion provided improved reliability when using UTC in healthy individuals. The ICC at 100% dorsiflexion was increased, and the MDC was reduced for all echotypes. Therefore, standardizing test positions when using UTC is advisable for reliable comparison of results between studies. PMID: 31516131 [PubMed - in process]

Tankeshwar, Ki-Hyun KimAbstractBioimplant engineering aims to mature biological alternatives to restore, retain, or modify damaged tissues and/or the functionality of organs. Remarkable advancements in modern material technology have helped the diversity of materials for orthopaedic implant application. As such, nanomaterials can simulate the surface properties of natural tissues, especially with respect to surface topography, surface chemistry, surface energy, and ...

Authors: Zhou NB, Wang KG, Fu ZJ Abstract The combination of morphine and ketamine is considered safe and efficacious in many patients. However, a considerable number of immunomodulatory effects have been reported to be produced by both morphine and ketamine. The aim of the present study was to assess the direct effect of morphine and a low dose of ketamine on the T cells of patients with refractory cancer pain in vitro. Venous blood was obtained from patients with refractory cancer pain and peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated using the Ficoll-Hypaque density gradient method. Anti-CD3 beads were used t...

In this study, the safety, efficacy, and advantages of Q-PTP and single-pulse laser mode of 1064-nm QSNY in the treatment of melasma were compared. Twelve healthy women were enrolled in this split-face study. Q-PTP and single-pulse laser mode of 1064-nm QSNY were applied to the treatment side and the control side, respectively. Physician's global assessment, patients' self-assessment and the modified melasma area and severity index (mMASI) scores were used to quantify pigmentation changes. Side effects were recorded. Mean mMASI scores were decreased significantly at the 4th and 12th-week follow-up visit compared to the bas...

Authors: Chu C, Yi X, Sun J, Zhang X, Liu S, Zhang N, Wang J Abstract Anesthetic effects and safety of dexmedetomidine and tramadol, respectively, combined with propofol in ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy (PMCT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were compared. One hundred and seventy-six patients with HCC, treated by ultrasound-guided PMCT in The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from January 2014 to December 2016, were retrospectively analyzed and divided into two groups: dexmedetomidine group (anesthetized with dexmedetomidine combined with propofol, n=91) and tramadol group ...

ConclusionsWe report two cases of visceral pseudoaneurysms and review the literature concerning etiology, presentation, diagnosis, and treatment.Visceral artery pseudoaneurysms should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patient with nonspecific abdominal symptoms. Diagnosis is often made with computed tomography or computed tomography angiography but digital angiography remains the gold standard. Treatment options include surgical, endovascular or percutaneous interventions. The choice of treatment is case specific.
