DunnAbstractChild neurologists should provide initial care for the mental health problems of children and adolescents with epilepsy. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders are common comorbidities of childhood epilepsy. The psychotropic drugs used to treat mental health disorders can be safely employed in children with seizures. Child neurologists can diagnose common behavioral problems, should be comfortable with first-line agents to treat common psychiatric illnesses, and should recognize when support from psychologists or child and adolescent psychiatrists is needed.
