Novel In  Vivo Investigation of the Brain Nociceptin/Orphanin FQ System in Alcohol Use Disorder: Are There Lessons From a Negative Neuroimaging Study?

The public health burden of alcohol use disorder is experienced globally, yet the heterogeneous clinical presentation of this disorder and the spectrum of pathophysiology associated with its various disease stages have made it difficult —despite auspicious animal models—to bring forth efficacious pharmacotherapies that improve clinical outcome. This particularly complex field of therapeutic drug development calls for better strategies to expand drug targets and to optimize their use.
